The phpLD PageRank Updater is a standalone application designed so directory owners can update the PageRank on all their links remotely. My own phpLD PR Update Tool is installed on the phpLD directory itself, and accessed in the admin area. The phpLD PageRank Updater is a MS Windows application that accesses the directory database remotely.
The phpLD PageRank Updater tool has been designed for scheduling the PR update of the links in your database. Some people have experienced some problems with my phpLD PR Update Tool due to Google blocking PR value retrieval from certain services, something that doesn’t occur with this tool.
Anyway, have a look at it, as it may suit your needs!
The Crafty Tips Arts & Crafts Directory is a really interesting approach to a directory. All of the links on the directory feature a craft tip or technique, with a direct link to the site that features the tip. Links can be submitted for free, cleverly encouraging website owners to suggest tips, techniques and ideas.
The crafts include Bonsai, Candles, Ceramics, Knitting, Glass, Gifts, Origami, Sewing and many many more. The directory owner has spent a lot of time making the site look good, appealling to users and website owners.
Clever usage of integrated Google Adsense encourages a good click-through-rate (CTR) without being obtrusive. The tips plasters the site with plenty of unique keyword-rich content, making it a search-engine magnet too. Overall, a very clever application of a niche directory!
The second release of the Category Dumps is now available. V1.01 contains MySQL dumps for phpLinkDirectory V2.00, V3.06 and now the newly released version of V2.10.
If you want to see more categories in the dump, you can submit your category suggestions to the Category Project. All accepted suggestions will appear in later category dump releases.
The reason why I say bribe factor for the Strongest Brands directory is that the more you pay for a link, the higher the link ranks in the site listings. Each listing has a Strength Rank (SR) which loosely corresponds to how much you have paid the directory for your link.
Links are reviewed in the order that they are received, and the fee you pay does not affect how quickly your link is reviewed. It’s an interesting concept, since its left it up to the buyer to decide how much they donate.
The ranking system is designed to give you an incentive to pay more. Based on how many websites are listed and their respective SR will determine where your site ranks. You can boost your site’s ranking at any time.
This directory does add something else that’s a little different. For example, up to 3 deep links allowed in the description to help encourage thoughtful submissions and value for keeping the listing well positioned.
Directory 4U is the first directory I’ve seen using categories from the Category Project. Am pleased to see it being used in a production directory!
I have released a mod for phpLinkDirectory 2.0 and 3.0.5+ that allows you to show statistics on the front of your directory relating to the links and categories in the database. You can see what it looks like at http://www.moondirectory.co.uk.
The idea was originally by Jappi at phpLinkDirectory Forums. I have made a few changes in this version.
- Added Featured Link Count.
- Replaced Categories and Subcategories with a total category count.
- Updated HTML to use DIV tags with stylesheets.
You can download the code and source needed to implement in the phpLD Statistics Mod section.
I have updated the Directory Lists section to add directories of directories. Basically directories made for advertising your new directory.
DirectorySpy.com is a site that I’ve been thinking about for a while, and have at last started the project. With DirectorySpy.com, I aim to publish information, tips, ideas and anything else that I can think of that relates to running Web Directories. Since I started running a web directory, I’ve learnt a great deal, and I thought this would be a good place to share that information with new and experienced web directory owners.
If at any time you think of things you’d like to see appear on DirectorySpy.com, please do let me know!
