I’ve had an opportunity to see ‘behind the curtain’ at a new web analytics offering, and I have to say - This is a must have (I’ll be adding it to the Spy here shortly).
The service is called ‘GoingUp!‘, and it’s a pretty nifty web analytics package. The free version comes with 1000 hits (traffic counts) per month, and offers all kinds of stats, from daily counts to monthly trends.
The basic service is completely free, so if you’re looking for a tracking service to help you keep an eye on your directory performance, then you owe it to yourself to give this a try.
Paid features include ‘actions’ to track things like sales, url clicks or other that you wish to record, as well as as SEO tracking of keywords, placement and also density. Pretty nifty.
I’m working on a price discount with these guys, in order to get us a reduced rate for their advanced analytics. I’ll post an update as soon as I get an answer.
I’ll be GoingUp! soon!

I’ve only just discovered that there are now new versions of phpLinkDirectory available. The free release has now reached V2.12 and the paid version has reached V3.20.
I have been very busy lately, and I have been trying to complete the PR Update Mod. However, with the release of two more phpLD versions, I will aim to add support for them. Looking at the changes for V2.12, the PR Update Mod should work with no problems but I need to check this. I also need to check the support for V3.20 too.
I’m getting there, I promise!
Tim from After 5 Web Design contacted me to let me know about a security vulnerability in the phpLD scripts. Having patched my own directories, I noticed that V2.00, V2.10 and possibly V3.06 are affected.
You can find out how to fix your directories in the article on After 5 Web Design. Take notice of this one guys!

I have recently started up a new paid for PR4 directory over at Itrcc.net which uses the new V2.10 script. I must say, it works really well!
I have made changes to my category scripts for the Category Project, and so I will be releasing phpLD V2.10 categories very soon.
IndexScript is a free and established directory script written in php. IndexScript is another popular directory script like phpLD, with a very different template system and administration backend. The IndexScript Forum has a collection of modifications and skins available to use with your installation too.
I must confess that I do not have an IndexScript directory. But having played with the demo directory, I am already very tempted to run a new directory using IndexScript. And it is free.
You can see some live examples of the IndexScript directory at Your Own Corner and Blackfox Directory.
The dump of categories is provided by a 3rd party, but I could see that adding an IndexScript category dump to the Category Project here on Directory Spy would be a useful contribution to the IndexScript community. Something for me to add to the to-do list I think.
So I’ll end this post here, and I’ll release more detailed information when I start up a new IndexScript directory! Until then, I suggest you have a play with it yourself!
